Alastair Brennan Strawn was destined for greatness. When he was in middle school, he could feel it in his bones. He wanted to do something with his life that was beyond the meager 9-5 regimen everyone around him seemed to acquire. Maybe it was the fact that he was born on Halloween or that his parents told him countless times that he could be anything he wanted to be -- either way, it seemed that he walked to the beat of his own drum and on a path that he paved for himself.
Growing up in his household was normal and if you asked him, he would concur that his childhood was a great one. Nothing abnormal happened to him or within his family unit. He played, he went to school, he watched cartoons, ate well and fought with sister like siblings do. He was close to his parents and his dad was someone he aspired to be. Being a business man, his father was a hard worker. He did everything in his power to make a good and comfortable living for his family. Amos Strawn build hotels around the UK, making it possible for his wife, Lucy to be a stay at home mom. The presence of his parents was never scarce and he lived a fulfilled life.
In middle school, Brennan began to fall into a crowd who seemed to have changed his life. It was an early age and being so young, he was impressionable. Hip hop became his life. He bought album after album, only to soak up the words and the beats. Music was Brennan's life from the moment he heard his first hip hop album: "King of Rock" by RUN DMC. Being inspired, he eventually began to write his own music. For his birthday, he received a laptop, where he began to give into creating beats and remixes on his own, making CDs and giving them to kids at school. Once graduated from high school, he saved up enough money with his job at one of his dad's hotels to buy an actual recording system, more high tech than his laptop. He recorded demo after demo of everything and anything he could think of. His end goal as to get his music heard, any way he could.
Brennan ended up going to The University of West London for his undergrad, where he majored in Music Technology and minored in Business. Although he was learning what he needed, unbeknownst to his future, he truly hated school. Once he graduated, he had no idea what he wanted to do with his life. Truly, his dream was to create music, but found it extremely hard to actually find the avenues to do so. Living at home with his parents after college, Brennan found himself in a slump, eventually a deep depression. Going to clubs and raves every weekend, turning into every other night, participating in recreational drug and alcohol use. He had no idea where he was going, until he befriended a local DJ at his favorite club. His friend ended up taking Brennan under his wing, after learning about his love for music and remix making. Although he didn't make any money from it, Brennan ended up playing with him on the weekends and even DJing in his friends absence whenever he couldn't make it. Slowly, Brennan knew this was exactly what he wanted to do.
On a fateful night in 2006, which he was DJing his own set, Brennan got lucky that a couple record execs were taking some time out of work to enjoy drinks and dancing. When they heard Brennan's DJ set, they realized the talent they were listening to. Brennan's talent lightyears beyond what he thought he was, as he was pretty hard on himself. However, taking a chance, he took the cards of the record execs and the next week gave them a call. Before he knew it, he was sending them his demos that he'd made and a month later was being signed to Three Six Zero Group, EMI, and Sony BMG for management, publishing, and recording. In 2007, he released his first studio album 'I Created Disco' and reached #8 on the UK Billboard music charts. To promote himself, he began to tour, where he found the greatest pleasure in his life. Touring was almost like an addiction for him, as he enjoyed meeting new people, being treated as someone extremely important, and getting anything and everything he wanted. The recreational drug use from back in the old days of his depression did not seem to have gone away. He loved the way cocaine made him feel and alcohol only fueled that desire. But he did create some magical music whenever intoxicated.
In 2009, his next record, 'Ready for the Weekend' came out. This time around, Brennan's drug and alcohol addiction was in full swing. Although he toured and was competant in his work, his personal life and relationships suffered. He became a person that not even he knew. Angry. Bitter. Weird. His addiction took control and he didn't even know it. He thought it to be a good thing because of the music he created. It wasnt until his family stepped in and intervened in 2010, that things changed. He eneded up going into rehab for 90 days and taking a break from his career. There, in rehab, Brennan began to find himself by clearing his mind and his body. In 2011, Brennan wrote 'We Found Love', one of his most popular to date. This was a launching pad to the inspiration that he was given through his stuggles with addition and rehab. He claims that his 2012 album '18 Months' was titled based on how long it took him to find clarity and recover from his addictions, and all of the songs were an ode to that part of his life.
After his third album was dropped, Brennan's career picked up faster than he could've imagined. Altohugh he worked with amazing artists before, people were noticing him more and he began to get recognition in the States. When he heard the songs he'd written on the radio in the USA, that's when he knew that he'd reached stardom. In 2014, Brennan released his most recent album, 'Motion'. The album showcased his growth and maturity and all of the lessons learned thorugh his career. Brennan still tours, DJs, produces, and writes, to this day, doing his best to abstain from drugs, even though he can't seem to quit alcohol, but that was never his true issue. Music is what truly saved him and to that, he has his whole life to re-pay to it, to which he will be doing so by never stopping creating it.
